Interview with Banyen Books:
Banyen: What is it that continues to draw you to this work?
Maskalyk: The love I have for the people I’ve meet along the way. The effortless beauty of the earth.
CBC’s “Magic 8 Q+A“:
Q: Chevy Stevens, “Is there another genre or style of book you would like to write? Why haven’t you?”
A: Apocalyptic fiction. I haven’t yet because it appears the book is writing itself.
Globe & Mail Q+A with Weston Nominees:
Q: What music do you usually write to?
A: I don’t write to music. I take Cheever’s rule. During the time you’ve allotted yourself to write, you can do only two things: write, or stare out the window.
Open Book Interview with RBC Taylor Prize Finalists:
Maskalyk: I question whether true non-fiction is possible. It is always, even if pure science, from the vantage of an individual’s consciousness, prone to the inherent flaws of view, memory, intention. That is what I like about the form. It draws from reality and puts me in another person’s eyes, or the reader’s in mine, trims out the non-essential so we can live, at least briefly, another life.
